RCO Ground Squirrel Pelleted Bait 4lb.

This anti-coagulant pellet is highly effective when used in or around squirrel infested areas.  Labeling requires placement into bait station like devices.  See recommended bait station below.

  • •  Market absence of any effective general use bait for controlling squirrels has been filled by RCO’s new pelleted squirrel bait.  It’s now available for use against squirrels.

  • •  Typical damage is done to emerging crops, walkways, ditch banks, and turf areas.  The damage will become more pronounced as moderate weather encourages vegetation to mature and produce fruit.  Activity will slow with hotter weather and slows yet again as frosting conditions occur in late fall.  Expect dormancy to occur in late summer for squirrels east of the Cascades and late fall for the majority of squirrels on the west side.  Limited squirrel activity can be witnessed during a very mild winter west of the Cascade Range.

  • •  RCO provides a multiple-feed bait, similar to rat and mouse baits, but designed for field use (outdoor areas).

  • •  This multiple-feed anti-coagulant bait requires a tamper resistant bait station.  This helps in prevention of accidental ingestion by children, domestic and wild animals.

  • •  Control is typically achieved in about 4-8 days after initial ingestion.

  • •  RCO Squirrel Patrol is a highly palatable pellet made from nuts and grain.

  • •  The label allows for use in crop and non-cropland areas, golf courses, nurseries, and around farm buildings.  The label also includes a residential use section that allows for use in and around gardens and around homes.

About Squirrels: Problems with ground squirrels seem to be most severe west of the Rocky Mountains, where damage can occur readily in cropping areas and landscaped environments.  Most squirrels avoid heavily wooded environments, preferring more open habitat where food is readily available.  Squirrels adapt well to man-made environments.  Undermining of foundations and ditch banks, crop removal or burying from excavations, damage to landscape areas and active carriers of ectoparasites and various diseases are the primary reasons for controlling this pest.  Squirrels are active in the daytime, gathering green vegetation early in season and switching to nuts and seeds as their hibernation period approaches with the hot weather of late summer.  Some species will work into late fall before going dormant and all emerge in early spring.  Life cycle is about 3-4 years.  Will have one litter a year of about 6-9 young that are weaned in about 4-6 weeks.  Social animals that will live in or near their colonies.  Predation is not effective control.

Control: Ground Squirrels are susceptible to the anti-coagulant rodenticides (RCO Squirrel Patrol) when used as directed.  Baiting in or near their activity areas is quite effective with mortality reached in about 4-5 days after ingestion of the bait.  Bait stations are provided for use with this bait to limit potential problems with children, livestock and pets.  Always pick up carcasses and dispose properly.  Use gloves when handling dead animal. Dust the old runways systems with insecticides, natural desiccants, or moth crystals, then bury the systems.
